Despite facing rejection and ridicule, he persevered, eventually earning the Padma Shri from the Government of India and the title "Akshara Santa" (The Saint of Education) for his selfless dedication. Today, his school educates over 150 students and stands as a beacon of hope.

Raja, once ostracized by family and society, founded NAMI in 1997 after experiencing homelessness firsthand. His first rescue—a half-naked woman covered in fleas and maggots—sparked his mission. Operating from a 5 x 6 ft passageway, NAMI now feeds over 750 people three meals daily, providing medical care, shelter, and education to homeless children. Dependent solely on public donations, it receives no government support.

When the ‘treatment to cure’ is no longer effective, patients opt for hospice care, where the curative care is of low importance and making the remaining life of the patient better is main agenda.
